Sunscreens are used to shield the skin from the sun's damaging rays. They protect against sunburn and early aging (such as wrinkles, leathery skin). Sunscreens also aid in lowering the chance of developing skin cancer. Sunscreens' active chemicals either absorb ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun, keeping it from penetrating the skin's deeper layers, or they reflect it. You cannot spend more time in the sun even if you are wearing sunscreen. Sunscreens can't shield you from all of the sun's rays.
What is SPF
The quantity of sun protection you'll get is indicated by the sun protection factor (SPF). For everyday usage, SPF 30 or higher is recommended, while SPF 50 or more is recommended if you plan to spend a lot of time outside. But UV light also contains UVA and UVB radiation, both of which can harm the skin. Since SPF only protects you from UVB rays, search for a "wide spectrum" certification to ensure that you are also shielded from UVA rays.
When to apply and how long it lasts
Everyday. This is so because everyone is constantly exposed to UV rays, whether indoors or on rainy days. It's also crucial to remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours because it goes off. In fact, if you spend more time outside or partake in more active pursuits, increase that interval to every 80–90 minutes.
How much to apply
For your face, use approximately a third of a teaspoon, and for your body, use around two tablespoons. Yes, your body also need sun protection, particularly on exposed regions like your arms and legs.
